Big and scaly
My Culinate column this week is about kitchen scales:
But if you love to cook, kitchen scales are downright exciting, and I’ll try to demonstrate this without resorting again to cheap sexual innuendo.

Well, it’s possible they’ve improved since last time I used one and the needle was kind of jumping all over. For me, the whole point of the scale is to stop worrying about measurement, and the analog scale is just inaccurate enough to make me worry about getting it right. (Probably not inaccurate enough to make any difference in a recipe, but worrying while cooking is worse than actually getting it wrong.) And now digital is almost as cheap as analog.

Oh, it’s definitely cheaper than the red Typhoon scale we got. I don’t find the needle jumps too much, tho I’m not really sure how one could be sure about the accuracy of either scale without a good thing to throw on both to verify.
