The chapter “Picky-Picky” from Hungry Monkey has been selected for Best Food Writing 2009, which is available now. Makes a great gift.

You know, after the first four times I was selected for Best Food Writing, I thought it might be a fluke, but now I’m convinced that I’m pretty good.

This year’s collection also features many of my friends, who are really good, including Francis Lam, Kim Severson, Molly Wizenberg, Bethany Jean Clement, and Steven Shaw.

Nice - well deserved. Of course it’s not a fluke.

Congratulations! I just picked up the 2006 version at a used book store here, and was very happy to see your article in it.

A fluke? No way - you are quite the accomplished food writer and author! Congratulations on being selected (again!) in the upcoming anthology.

An aside - belated hello to you and your Mom. I was the person with 6 year in tow standing in the Parfait line behind you at the Food Truck gathering over in Interbay.

Fluke nothing. You are a riot!! You make me laugh out loud. With my 2.5 and 4yo burgeoning chefs in the house, my husband and I LOVED Hungry Monkey and I read it twice in a week before it even hit the shelves(my hubby works for HMH). We both love to cook and made a concerted effort not to be “chicken finger parents”. A phrase my husband coined while describing some of our friends kids who eat only chicken fingers and occasionally cheese pizza and NEVER try anything different or would be caught eating a single vegetable. That probably sounds just a WEE bit snotty, but I wanted my kids to like food and cooking as much as we did. And we’ve been lucky. They do.

My 4yo stated the other night that she’d like Tilapia with lime and squash and maybe a little bit of Naan if I wouldn’t mind. I love that kid! Keep it up. I would love to hear more about Iris as she grows up!!!

And CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Ha! No coincidence. I still find myself giggling over the tupperware and spreadsheet piece. Which I’m pretty sure no one else remembers by now. Congratulations! Molly

hi - I remember your food writing from guest posts on Laurie’s Maud-L about 10 years ago (company dinners perhaps?). I think I still have an old print out with a recipe for penne alla vodka floating around in my recipe notebook. I just recently found and read Hungry Monkey and will be glad to get a regular fix of your writing here on the blog :)
