The ocean called, they’re running out of fish

Today in the Seattle Times:

Delicious, Sustainable Sushi

Lunch was $12.50, and it came with a lagniappe: the crispy fried head of the B.C. spot prawn whose tail I ate raw. I thought of it as a little present for trying to do the right thing.

The comment here is interesting:

“Kitamura thought about going all-sustainable at Chiso and decided his customers wouldn’t accept it.”

I’ve been wishing for a sushi place in Seattle that was all-sustainable. It takes a while to cross-reference our card with the menu while we’re ordering. I like your idea of putting the card into the sushi chef’s hand and having him work it out, though I don’t know if everyone would even know what to do with it.

Yeah, I was surprised he admitted that, but I had to give him props for honesty.

Doing this article made me feel smug about liking small, fishy fish. Presumably this is the feeling that comes before Seafood Watch announcing that small, fishy fish have become endangered because of jerks like me.
