when i was ten, my family spent a week at a cabin in door county, wisconsin…the beach was a short walk (through some woods! mosquito filled woods!) away.

my mom had read something somewhere…as a mosquito repellent, we all swallowed a half-teaspoon (ish) of cake yeast every day.

i’m pretty sure when you’re ten, in the summer, your job is generally to have random bites and weird scabs and stuff, so i’m not sure if it worked. but that’s the only time in my life i’ve interacted with cake yeast.
