As a child, I hated the soggy, bitter orbs I knew as Brussels sprouts. As an adult, I didn't eat them -- until we moved to Seattle and joined a CSA program. One week in early December, a stalk of sprouts showed up in our box, along with a recipe much like yours for braised sprout, with the addition of chicken broth and thyme. Heavenly! Sweet, tender, nutty -- nothing at all like the boiled sprouts of my childhood. Each winter, when we find the first stalks at the farmers market, we make a meal or two of nothing but braised sprouts over brown rice.

I haven't tried frozen sprouts, but I will. Thanks for the tip.
