mmmm. Red Mill rocks. I love the verde burger there (although I get it with a veggie burger because I made the mistake of reading Fast Food nation and can't stomach the idea of ground meat anymore).

I have to agree with you on the Brocolli Blasted. All my friends seemed to love it, but I wouldn't order it again. The bechemel pizza though is another story.

For anyone who doesn't know, Marlena wrote (among many other books) an entire book about grilled cheese sandwiches, thus demonstrating that she is da bomb.

forget the burger, i'm happiest feasting on your writing!

so darned amusing. such apposite observations, as well as a dandy turn of phrase. you're funny and charming and honest, and i'd trust you with my dinner wholeheartedly.

Glad you had a good experience, Lani. Since the biggest problem with the burger was overcooking, I'm not surprised they sometimes (maybe even most of the time, for all I know) got it right, even before my review.

Hey, I actually went to Zak's per your recommendation on the shakes in your review, and I was totally prepared to be disappointed about the burger (this was about a month ago). It was great! The food was fantastic - I really liked the fries, the burger was solidly good, and the shakes were to-die-for. Thanks for re-reviewing this, and for sharing how responsive the owner was.

Brian, I do like Thaiku, especially the kao soi and that dish with the stir-fried ground chicken and the overcooked egg.

I would still choose Red Mill over Zak's, partly because of the bun issue and partly because I like the verde and red onion jam burgers at the Mill. But Zak's is definitely good.

As one of your 12 readers...thanks for the zak's retread. I was going to go there but kept heading to Red Mill instead. Do you ever go to Thaiku?

Andrew, I was exaggerating for effect. I actually have at least fifteen readers.
